120,000 points or 90,000 Miles

American Express Netherlands is advertising an upgrade bonus of 120,000 Membership Rewards points for The Platinum Card or 90,000 Miles for Flying Blue Platinum. This is an offer for existing cardholders changing their card, separate from a new-card welcome or referral offer.

AMEX describes the campaign as its highest upgrade offer ever. That needs context: its April 2026 Platinum upgrade already offered 120,000 points. The Flying Blue bonus has increased from the 80,000 Miles in that campaign to 90,000 Miles.

The Platinum Card: apply by 28 October

Blue, Green and Gold cardholders can request a Platinum upgrade from 30 September through 28 October 2026 for 120,000 Membership Rewards points. The card costs €75 per month. AMEX approval is required and you must have been a cardholder for at least six months.

The points are credited in month nine if you make at least one purchase of €1 or more in every month from one through eight. Missing a month means no bonus. The card must remain active when points are credited; different upgrade promotions cannot be combined in the same period.

You may request an upgrade or downgrade at most once every six months, except for a change to Blue. Switching between Business and consumer cards is not possible. AMEX may reclaim the bonus if you downgrade within six months of upgrading. These are Membership Rewards points, not Flying Blue Miles.

Flying Blue Platinum: apply by 28 October

The current conditions cover upgrades from Flying Blue Entry, Silver or Gold to Flying Blue Platinum, requested from 30 September through 28 October 2026. The card costs €55 per month. AMEX approval is required and you must have held an American Express card for at least six months.

The 90,000 Miles are credited in month nine if you make at least one purchase of €1 or more in every month from one through eight. Missing a month means no bonus. The card must remain active when the Miles are credited. You cannot combine different upgrade promotions in the same period.

You may request an upgrade or downgrade at most once every six months. A Business Card cannot be changed into a consumer card or vice versa. AMEX may reclaim the bonus if you downgrade within six months of upgrading.

60 annual XP are a separate benefit

Flying Blue Platinum provides 60 XP annually. These are the regular card benefit, separate from the 90,000 bonus Miles. The upgrade conditions do not list an additional promotional XP bonus. The Platinum card name does not itself give you Flying Blue Platinum status.

Does upgrading fit your plans?

Compare the higher ongoing fee with benefits you will actually use and the purchases needed for the bonus. Keep the application deadline and payout month in your calendar. An attractive bonus does not automatically make the card suitable after the promotion.
